O Zagaia

‘Zagaia’ means a spear used by fisherman to collect fish. The restaurant is in Sesimbra, a traditionally fisher’s village. Pedro, the owner, focused on recreating traditional fisherman’s food (but they also include meat) into a sophisticated yet simple and very comfortable restaurant. I think his grandfather owned the old space where they are now, and it was closed for years. Moreover, Pedro is the son of Mr. Mateus, the owner of Casa Mateus, a restaurant we also highly recommend in our list.

It’s hard to please everyone, some people like things I don’t, it’s a fact. But for me, O Zagaia is on top of my list. Even comparing to some amazing restaurants you can find in Lisbon and elsewhere. The story of it, blending history, tradition and innovation, is also very appealing.
